Magnificent position on the edge of Dorset AONB/NL

Chisel Barn Holiday Cottages consists of one barn conversion containing two cottages and a further annexe with a delightful newly built one bedroom flat. Twenty years ago we bought a farm house and smallholding with run down farm buildings that used to form part of a large dairy. Twelve years ago we converted one of the barns, and in 2023  built ourselves a new house with an annexe to add to Chisel Barn.

Just outside Child Okeford in North Dorset, our farm is in a truly lovely position sitting under Hambledon Hill (one of two iron age hill forts next to us) looking down onto the River Stour. The walking is wonderful, and the views are magical. There is plenty to do for all interests - we are within reach of the coast and cities like Salisbury and Bath, and art galleries, gardens and plenty of National Trust properties.

Restaurants and pubs have changed radically since we moved here and we are blessed with a wonderful village on our doorstep with all sorts of pubs and shops and pop-up food providers. Further afield there are destination restaurants and pubs.

We have had wonderful guests since we first started the Barn, and many of them return year after year. They like the views and the easy accessibility of the barns. Everything is on one floor and the configuration make it particularly successful for extended family holidays. Grand parents can have some peace and quiet, and yet be part of the holiday.

The Barn has kept the structure of the old building but with cosy woodburners and convenient modern living arrangements. Both Whites Ground and Fox Ditch have small enclosed gardens and we welcome dogs. The new addition, Top Cottage, has lovely views and although we provide a seating area to enjoy your morning coffee it does not have its own garden.

We provide all towels and bedding. Plus a welcome pack of fresh bread, coffee, tea, butter and eggs.

Meet the owner

Lucinda Sunnucks

We moved to Chisel Farm House - just below the farm buildings - in 2002. They had been the base for a large dairy and remain part of a working farm, with cattle and sheep grazing in the surrounding fields. For the first ten years we let the barns and fields to the local pony club for their summer camp, but in 2013 we converted one building and Chisel Barn was born. Roll on ten years, we have moved out of the farm house and built ourselves a new house on the site of the remaining buildings. I was brought up in Somerset and we moved to Dorset in 1996, We adore this area, the views are fantastic in every direction. We brought up our three children and spent long holidays riding and enjoying all that is around us. We want to share our huge love of this wonderful, tranquil spot. The three properties are simple and understated, but sympathetically decorated with all you could want in a holiday home. Access is easy and the flexibility of the different sized properties mean that different family and extended family holidays can be catered for. Living here all year round makes us experts on so much that is going on in Dorset, so do ask if need more information.
