The Boat House Lodge, as featured on Escape To The Country (Series 24, Episode 41), is your perfect place to get away from it all. Comfortable, stylish and well-equipped, the open plan studio apartment is an oasis of peace and tranquillity overlooking the River Severn and stunning Shropshire countryside.
Floor to (almost) ceiling windows look out over the garden, river and gorgeous surroundings. Premium quality toiletries and diffusers from The Blue Lemon, Shrewsbury, evoke a spa-like ambience. And the super-king bed*, complete with silky soft sheets, makes for a blissful night sleep. You'll wake up refreshed and ready to face the world.
Choose to do as much or as little as you want during your stay: You get the best of both worlds. Your welcome hamper is filled with seasonal, local produce and homemade goodies to enjoy while you relax and recharge. Inside, the kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, oven, utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware should you wish to cook or dine in. There's a selection of board games, jigsaws and books as well as WiFi and a Smart TV if you want to enjoy something on Netflix. Underfloor heating makes the Lodge extra cosy in winter months, and air conditioning and blinds keeps it cool during the summer.
Outside, there's an enclosed garden next to the Lodge, perfect for your morning coffee (the Lodge is equipped with a Nespresso machine) or drinks and nibbles later in the day (ideal if you're bringing dogs.) There's a picnic table and benches on the riverside lawn too. If the weather's fine, fill up the cool box and spend a couple of hours gazing down the river and enjoying the wildlife. If it's on the chillier side, warm up by the fire pit and enjoy toasting some marshmallows while you look at the stars.
There's also so much for you to see and do: The Boat House Lodge is ideally located to explore Shropshire. The nearest pub is The Horseshoes (approx. 30 minute walk/4 minute drive). It's newly refurbished, open every day and dog-friendly.
The ancient Wroxeter Roman City, an English Heritage site, is just a 2 minute drive/10 minute walk away from the Lodge. Wroxeter also has its own vineyard, Wroxeter Roman Vineyard, which offers tours and lunch packages. The National Trust Attingham Park is 2.8 miles away. It's a beautiful 18th century Regency house with 200 acres of parkland and several circular walks.
Shrewsbury, Shropshire's county town, is only a 15 minute drive. Explore the Medieval streets, indulge in some retail therapy and enjoy a drink and some good food in one of the many bars, restaurants or Shrewsbury Market Hall. You can also take in the sights from the river with a 45 min cruise. Ironbridge Gorge (a Unesco World Heritage Site), Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth and Ludlow are all picturesque market towns and worth a visit. With the Wrekin, Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge, Shropshire is also a wonderful place to discover on foot and by bike. The River Severn is literally at the bottom of the garden if you want to explore by canoe or kayak. (You're welcome to bring your own or there are rental companies nearby.)
Your well-behaved dogs are welcome guests too. (Two dogs are allowed at no extra charge.) There's an enclosed garden as well as lots of land to run around on, a river to swim in and plenty of good sticks for your four legged friends to enjoy. They'll get some doggy treats in the welcome hamper too. If you get muddy on a walk (there's lots to choose from), you'll find water bowls, a shower and spare towels in the laundry room.
There's private parking (the grounds are gated) and there's also an EV charging station. (A before and after KW/hr meter reading will be taken. Payment is by cash or bank transfer.)
We hope to see you soon: The Boat House Lodge is waiting for you.
