As far as British holiday destinations go, Suffolk is one of the most rewarding and underrated. Picturesque, well-connected and coastal, the county combines stunning landscapes with a host of historic villages. Despite all this – possibly due to its perceived out-of-the-way location on the map – Suffolk’s pull hasn’t always been widely felt outside the boundaries of East Anglia.

Cornwall, land of myth and legend, is steeped in history, rich in culture, has provided inspiration to artists, poets and writers for centuries, and even has its own language. With its mild climate and varied landscape, for many years it has been one of the favourite tourist destinations in England, attracting both domestic and international visitors.

In medieval times Kent, Surrey and Sussex were known as The Weald. The word is Old English and means ‘woodland’, giving you a clue as to what the most prominent feature of these counties used to be. Remains of the forest that covered most of the three counties are still evident. Attractions such as Ashdown Forest have managed to preserve pieces of the ancient woodland. But there’s much more to Kent, Surrey and Sussex than just trees. There are plenty of attractions too, making any of them perfect for a family holiday.
